BIEN3.0 development timeline:¶
- Brad's commented version: attachment:BIEN_Milestone_–_feedback.docx
- Martha's commented version: BIEN3_Milestones_and_Development_Timeline_MLN2.docx
- Brad's initial version: BIEN3_milestones.doc
Aaron's feedback on the timeline¶
- Do we want to do the web interface last? Does that mean easy access to the database (both for importing and exporting data) isn't important?
- Do we need 3 months to revise schemas?
- Do we want to devote 2 months to data provider feedback?
- What is involved with "Additional data"?
- Acquiring and mapping data from many additional data sources will take time, maybe more than 2 months (part of which are dedicated to the web interface)
- "Build and test BIEN3 database and import utilities" is an overarching task that will be worked on throughout the BIEN project, rather than just in the first few months
- There will always be new features we want to add
Martha's feedback on the timeline (added by Martha)¶
- Do web services for georeferencing and geovalidation exist? If not, these bullet items may be problematic dependencies.
- Will Aaron develop the web site (interface)?
To do¶
Brad's meeting notes: BIEN_db_meeting_20111208.docx
Brad will find plot data source provider to work with AaronNeed DwC dumps from each data provider, rather than using BIEN 2 dataVegX a superset of DwCwork with Nick Spencer to revise VegX- handle pushing DwC straight through
get Bob and Nick's input on VegBank/VegX mappings
Brad will provide benchmark queries for NYBG datae-mail Bob the mappings to review
From Brad¶
New VegBank schema, in particular remodeling relationship between stems and individual trees (Bob)Additional comments on mappings by Bob and Nick.Aaron will extract or highlight only those elements where comment is required(Aaron, Bob, Nick)Validation scripts for NYBG specimen data (Brad)Identify and provide additional DwC-compliant specimen data (Brad)RAINFOR data, with commitment by someone familiar with DB to work with Aaron on (a) evaluating mappings, and (b) developing validation scripts. If RAINFOR isn't available, I will try to find other source. Perhaps Steve and the CTFS database? (Brad)- TurboVeg data, with commitment by someone familiar with DB to work with Aaron on (a) evaluating mappings, and (b) developing validation scripts (Bob)
Mapping from NVS to VegX and VegBIEN. Will require finding someone at NVS willing to work with Aaron and mappings and validations (Aaron and ?)Request new data dump of specimen data from GBIF, this time in DwC format. Hard to believe GBIF, of all sources, didn't give us DwC the first time. (Brad)Try to find source of DwCA (DwC Archives) data. I'm hoping GBIF will be willing to work with us on this. Possibly approach Remsen directly (Brad).
Direct mapping from native salvias_plots MySQL database to VegBIEN (Aaron, Brad to help evaluate)
