VegX modifications¶

abioticObservation¶

• what existing standards are there? SoTerML, but that doesn't go to the level of detail we want (no standard names of soil elements)
  • Canada plots database system has lots of soil attributes
• different datasets can use different units for the same quantity
  • e.g. carbon measured by volume or mass
• different datasets can measure the same quantity using different methods

Geospatial and climate data¶

• GML
• Observations and Measures (O&M) standard, which NVS staff is familiar with: See Observations and Measurements Official Schemas .

individualOrganismObservation¶

• add growthForm (closed list)
• add sourceAccessionCode
• add authorPlantCode
• clarify that identificationLabel is stem tag
• allow multiple identificationLabels (tag1, tag2, etc.)
  • sequence indicates order

plotObservation¶

• add parentPlotObservationID
• add methodNarrative

Structure¶

• provide example of nesting
  • e.g. individualOrganismObservation inside plotObservation, instead of (or as an alternative to) to being connected with a pointer

VegBIEN modifications¶

• standardize soilobs field names
• add soil extraction method table
  • include units of soil attributes
