2013-05-24 conference call

Brad's notes:

Thanks for a productive meeting. Here is my summary of deliverables for the coming week, based on today's call:

Aaron:

1. GBIF
        A. Re-import entire raw occurrence table to MySQL (will likely take all weekend)
        B. Filter in MySQL:
                (i) Exclude all records of any institution already in our database (i.e., herbaria which gave us data directly)
(ii) For remainder, include all records from institutions in Index Herbariorum
(iii) For remainder, include all records from institutions where family LIKE "%aceae" for >=80% records
                - (i) and (ii) can be implemented in the same WHERE clause
        C. Import filtered GBIF records to Postgres
2. FIA
        A. Finish scripting the filtering rules provided by Brad. Work on this while GBIF queries are running

Jim:
1. Point Brad to table containing distinct country, stateProvince, countyParish for BIEN records where country and stateProvince have been matched

Brad:
1. Develop table of commonly-used prefixes and suffixes denoting type of third-level political division, for New World countries. For Mexico, for example, names of municipalities are commonly prepended with "Municipio de ", "Mun. de " or "Mpio. de " (with or without "de"). This table will then be incorporated into Jim's geographic name resolution script to improve matching of third-level political divisions
2. Check validity of Aaron's function used to populate column higherPlantGroup. Aaron has provided Brad with the code. Report back by next week on any changes needed

Finally, a reminder to all that we will meet next week at our normal day and time on Thursday morning.
