c-name¶
the c-name (canonical u-name) for something is the best possible u-name which is still unambiguous
compare: a u-name vs. the c-name
choosing¶
determine the best name using the following factors, in order:
- clearest
- most human-readable
- shortest:
- fewest syllables (making the name easier to say)
- fewest characters (making the name easier to write or type)
- fewest uncommon characters (making the name easier to understand and remember)
- simplest spelling (making the name easier to read and pronounce)
examples¶
- "c-name" is the c-name for c-name because it is as short as possible, but "cu-name" and "canonical_unambiguous_name" are not
- "canonical_name" is not the c-name because it is not even a u-name (canonical does not necessarily imply unambiguous)
