Decisions made¶
derived columns¶
- Brad: all derived columns, including geovalidation, need to be a pipeline
(what priority should making a geovalidation pipeline have compared to refactoring, etc.?) - Brad: BIEN species-level phylogeny (part of the derived data) is out of scope for the database
end users¶
- Brad: we should not be handling people's individual data requests (Naia's new project, John's range modeling)
- Mark: normalized DB not useful to end users; they need the scientific views instead
import process refactoring¶
- we will do the flattening of the datasources
- this is a change from the previous plan (see comments on "map all datasources to denormalized VegCore schema")
- this is similar to the denormalized import process suggested a while ago as a way to bypass VegBIEN and go directly to VegCore.
we may want to consider the steps for that approach in doing the flattening.
- Brad: it should be flatten->validate->normalize
VegBIEN XML import¶
- Ramona: our datasources aren't XML, so why do we need an XML import schema?
VegBIEN schema¶
- Brad: he and Bob found deficiencies in VegBIEN that are addressed in normalized VegCore
(Mark asked what are these?)- normalized VegCore has been updated to address some of the deficiencies pointed out in the 2013-04-24 conference call, especially relating to geovalidation
- Brad: VegBIEN is broken because it doesn't have Brad's/Bob's fixes, so we need to move to VegCore
we should discuss next week whether to abandon the VegBIEN schema in favor of normalized VegCore
